How To Repair Large Hole In Foundation
I recently removed a metal chimney (click hither for that project) from the side of my house which left me with a dilemma… After I removed the chimney, I was left with a big (most 18") hole in my cinderblock/concrete foundation that needed to exist patched. This article volition show you how to patch a pigsty in your cinder block / concrete foundation.
The steps to repairing and patching a hole in a cinderblock or concrete foundation wall are as follows:
- Pace one: Make clean out the hole and make certain that it is complimentary of any loose debris, grit, or dirt.

Step three: Mix up your physical repair mortar to a 'clay' consistency and apply it to the hole.
To actually repair/make full the hole, I chose to use Rapid Set Physical Mix. Although this rapid setting physical is a footling more pricey than standard concrete, information technology sets upward in fifteen minutes, which makes information technology much easier to work with for this repair.
Mix up your concrete in a wheelbarrow or bucket using slightly less water than the manufacturer recommends. By doing this, yous volition exist left with concrete that has a "clay-similar" consistency – which volition make it easy to piece of work.

Use the concrete trowel to smooth out whatsoever imperfections and blend the new concrete into the existing foundation. Basically, make it shine.
Practise this for both the interior and exterior sides of the repair. At this point, only give the physical repair time to set-up and dry out.
Step v: Paint the repaired surface area to match the existing foundation color.
Once you have given your physical foundation repair sufficient time to dry, the last pace is to simply paint your repair to match the existing foundation colour. However, I understand that finding an verbal color lucifer may exist hard. I actually ended up re-painting my unabridged foundation for a uniform color/end. I used my Graco Projection Painter Plus which made this painting process super quick and easy.
Later painting, your cinderblock/physical repair project is complete. If you lot follow the steps above, yous will be left with a nifty repair that makes your foundation expect practiced as new!
Bonus tip: I did not apply re-bar or steel mesh to my physical foundation repair, only this may be a good additional step to add increased forcefulness to your concrete/cinder block foundation repair.
